How to Create Dial-up Connection in For BSNL Broadband

Here are steps to create it. The screenshots are taken for a Windows XP computer but they are almost same for Windows Vista.

Steps to create a dial up connection for connecting to Broadband
Go to start->control panel->Network Connections .click “create a new connection “on the left pane you will get a window showing “welcome to the new connection wizard”
click “next” In the next window select “connect to the internet ” and click “next”
Now select “set up my connection manually”, as shown in the figure below.

Select “connect using a Broadband connection that requires a user name a
password” and click next as shown in the following figure.

Now it says to you to give ISP name. Type “BSNL” and click next
Now enter the user name and password provided by BSNL to you as illustrated in the following image, and click next.

Now It will show a window showing “completing the new connection wizard” click finish. You can tick “add a shortcut to desktop” if you want to connect from the desktop itself. This connection by default is created in control panel=>network connection.
Double click on this connection to connect to BSNL broadband. A windows pops up showing “connect BSNL”. Clicks connect.

If everything is fine….you will be connected to Internet within seconds...

Once it is connected you will get this info in system tray. When you want to disconnect  you can do so by right click on system tray computer icons and click disconnect.

Scheduling BSNL Broadband for Night Downloads

Here are two batch scripts which are used to connect or disconnect your broadband connection. These scripts can also be scheduled at a particular time so that you connect to broadband only when you require. A must have for people who are using limited plans which give unlimited downloads in night hours. Note that this will work in Bridge mode only, so first configure your modem in bridge mode and then try this method.

Batch File for Connecting BSNL Broadband :
Windows has a command to dial up your connection. Using the command ‘rasdial’
here is the code which assumes that the name of connection you made is “BSNL”
 rasdial BSNL username password
So if your user name is ‘Tommy’ and password is ‘doggy’’ then the script will be
rasdial BSNL Tommy doggy
Now copy the above code and paste it into notepad. When you save the file click “save as” and in the file name write “connect.bat” including double quotes. The double quote will ensure that the file type is “bat” and not “txt” as happens with any file you save with notepad. The file icon should look like this figure.

Batch File for Disconnecting BSNL Broadband :
Simply add /disconnect to the above batch file as follows-
rasdial BSNL /disconnect
Save this file as ‘disconnect.bat’
Make a new folder in C:/ drive and keep these batch files in the folder

Scheduling Automatic Connection Using These Batch Files :
Here we can schedule automatic connection to broadband using the inbuilt Windows Task Scheduler. Here is how to do it.
  1. Open control panel=>Scheduled Task. Add scheduled Task. This will open ‘Scheduled Task Wizard’. Here you will see a list of programs which you can schedule. Click ‘Browse’ and go to the folder where you saved ‘connect.bat’ and select it.
  2. Give the task, a name say, connect1 and set the frequency say ‘daily’ and click next.
  3. Select the start time and start date. Start date will be today and set the start time to the time you get unlimited downloads. For BSNL set it to 02.10 am.
  4. In the next step it will ask for your computer user name and password. If you have  single user computer, this field will be filled already ,so click next.
  5. Tick ‘Open advanced properties for task when I click finish’ and click next.
You should see the window as follows-

Remember to tick ‘Run only if logged on’ and press OK. Now when you open control panel=>scheduled task, you should see you task listed there.
Similarly add “disconnect.bat” and schedule it at 07.50 am.
Finally you should see your scheduled task windows as the following figure.
Here I have scheduled “connect.bat” three times as sometimes the connection fails in my region.

Now just put your modem in ON condition and sleep peacefully. Your modem will automatically connect to broadband at the time you want and disconnect too at required time.

Connect Two Laptops Using WiFi

This is step by step tutorial on how you can connect two laptops using WiFi (or two desktop computers with WiFi devices). This type of network is known as peer to peer network and is useful for file sharing and using same internet connection on both systems. So as told earlier you should have two laptops with WiFi or desktops with WiFi devices to make this connection.

Connecting Two Computers Using WiFi

Let’s name both laptops as PC1 and PC2. Now we need to set names and workgroups of both computers (Remember both computers will have same workgroups). To set the name and workgroup of both computers right click on My Computer and select Properties. Click the tab which says Computer Name and change names of computers as you like (Here we will set computer names PC1 and PC2) and also change the Workgroup option as you like (but this Workgroup should be same for both computers).

Changing Computer Name
Now you need to make “Wireless Network Connection” in PC1. Right click on Wireless Network icon for this and click on option “View Available Wireless Network”.

Now click on option “Change Advance Settings”.

Now a windows “Wireless Internet Connection Properties” will open. Click on the tab which says “Wireless Network” and then click Add button. Now write a name in Network Name field. You can also set a password here if you like and also remember to check the option “This is computer to computer network”. Now press OK and “wireless network properties” will be closed.

Creating Ad-Hoc Connection
Now in next step, you need to provide IP for network in “Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)”. For this, right click on “Wireless Internet Connection” and go in Properties and click Internet Protocols and then click Properties. Here For example.
PC1 = IP Address: 192.168.1.1 Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
PC2 = IP Address: 192.168.1.2 Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
And Default Gateway as 192.168.1.1 (same as IP address of PC1). Having done this all, you can connect both computers using WiFi.

Setting Up IP address

PC2

Changing IP address on PC2
File Sharing Between Both Computers
Now for file sharing Enable the Sharing of “Shared Folder” in both computers. So to go in other computer, write IP address of that computer in address bar of first computer and press Enter (in this case write \\192.168.1.1 and press Enter). This will open other computer’s sharing folder where you can share file, delete files or rename them (make sure to allow these actions from other computer).

Wireless Internet Sharing Between Both Computers

It is very easy to do when you have followed above procedure. Right click on “Internet Connections” on one computer (which has internet connection in it) and go in Properties and click on Sharing and check the option which says “Allow other network users to connect through this computer” and select “Wireless Internet Connection” in “Home Network Connection”. If you want you can also check “Establish Dialup Connection” and “Allow Other Network” .

That is it. You have connected both computers using WiFi and now you can share files, play games and chat on this network.

How to connect two Computer using LAN cable

To Connect Directly without any other devices

Firstly you need a network crossover cable. Available from most computer stores. This is a special type of cable (not a standard LAN cable)

Secondly Make sure both computers are on the same workgroup. TO do this Right click on My computer, Properties, go to the Computer Name Tab, See what is written in Workgroup. Change one computer by clicking on change and then type in the name of the other computer in the workgroup space down the bottom. Do not make the computer part of a domain. You want Workgroup.

This name change will require a computer reboot.

When both computers are on the same workgroup, we need to set IP Addresses.

In Control Panel, Open Network Settings.
Right click on Local Area Connections and select properties.

Under the heading "This connection uses the following items, Find Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)
Highlight it, Make sure you don't untick the box, and click on properties
Under the heading Use the following IP Address ENter in the Following on ONE Computer.

IP Address 192.168.0.10
Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway Leave Blank

Under the Heading Obtain DNS Server address automatically
Set this to Automatic. Don't enter anything in.

On the second computer Make the IP Address 192.168.0.20
Everything else the same.

This should be all.

Thank You

What Are the Most Common Computer Problems?

What Are the Most Common Computer Problems?
What Are the Most Common Computer Problems?
Many common computer problems are easy to fix but hard to diagnose.
Once you figure out what is wrong with the computer, a solution is easy
to find. Most of the time, it will either be a problem of: viruses, malware,
spyware or a computer running slow.
In a worst-case scenario you will have to wipe your hard drive clean and
reinstall the operating system. This is not always as bad as it seems as
it will bring back some performance to your computer. Also, if you can
backup your important files before wiping the drive, you really haven't
lost anything.

    Viruses

  1. McAfee Virus Scan
    McAfee Virus Scan
Viruses are a very common problem with computers. The thing is, you can get a virus by simply visiting a website. Some symptoms of computer viruses are: weird or strange behavior within the operating system, extremely slow performance, and non-responsive applications.

The solution to getting rid of viruses is simple: You need anti-virus software. The two most common software developers of anti-virus software are McAfee and Norton. If you don't have the money to purchase either of these, try out a website called www.trendmicro.com. They feature free scans and removal.

  2. Malware

  3. Malware Infected
    Malware Infected
Malware is another common problem infecting many computers. Malware stands for malicious software. Some examples of common malware are worms and Trojan horses. Malware often infects your computer through email attachments and using P2P programs such as Limewire. The severity level of malware ranges anywhere from infecting one file to destroying your entire hard disk.

It is often hard to get rid of malware. It is recommended that you do either a system restore, or a wipe and reinstall of your operating system. For less potent malware, you should try a program such as Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.

  4. Spyware

  5. Adware
    Adware
Spyware is the most common computer problem. You can pickup spyware on your computer from just about anything. Tracking cookies are often considered spyware if they sit in a certain place on your computer such as the registry. The most common symptom of spyware is a significant slowdown of computer performance. Also, you may notice certain programs that you never remember installing being on your computer.

There are a lot of programs on the market that will remove spyware; and most of them are free. Try out Spybot Search and Destroy or Adaware.

  6. Computer Running Slow

  7. System Configuration Utility
    System Configuration Utility
If you do not have any of the problems above, and your computer is still running slow, it should only take a couple actions to fix.

Do a disk cleanup: "Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Cleanup."

Defragment your hard drive: "Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Defragmenter."

If the above two things do not fix your computer, tweaking the startup will normally do the trick: "Start > Run > Type 'msconfig.'" After you have done that, it will open up your system configuration utility. Select the tab that says "General" and put a check in the box next to "Selective Startup."

Next, click the tab labeled "Startup." Here you will get a list of programs that are running in the background. All of these programs automatically start when you turn on your computer. You can get some of your resources back by unchecking some of them. Do not uncheck any Windows system applications. Anything else should be fine.
